Life in America

It is so wonderful to be home. We have been spending so much time with our family that we have missed the special moments of being alone. Yesterday was our first day in Monterey and it was also Father's day. After we checked into our room we called Olga, Anya, and Sister Fry in Ukraine. A few minutes after we hung up Sister Lee (Charlene), called us from Pocatello Idaho. She and her husband were the Country Directors in Kiev while we were in Ukraine. It was so great to catch up with everyone. Then I got to spend some time creating our new blog and writing e-mails to people I haven't had time to contact yet. Nathan and Karrissa both called to wish their dad a Happy Fathers Day, and then we went out to dinner on the Wharf. Today we just went for a walk, sat on a park bench and read our books near the Harbor. What a great day, warm sunshine, blue skies, the sound of seagulls, and water lapping near the shore as we sat and read. I love this man.
Thanks Bruce for planning this great get-away. I love you so much.

Happy Father's Day Bruce

The 1966 musical "I Do! I Do!" by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt featured the great love song "My Cup Runneth Over with Love." these words take on new meaning to me as I reflect this Father's Day on the love that I have for my sweet husband Bruce. I am so grateful to have him for my eternal companion.

"Sometimes in the morning when shadows are deep,
I lie here beside you, just watching you sleep,
And sometimes I whisper what I'm thinking of,
My Cup Runneth Over with Love.
Sometimes in the evening when you do not see,
I study the small things you do constantly,
I memorize moments that I'm fondest of,
My Cup Runneth Over with Love.
In only a moment we both will be old,
We won't even notice the world turning cold,
And so in this moment with sunlight above,
My Cup Runneth Over With Love."

My cup runneth over with love

One of my favorite movies was Hope Floats with Sandra Bullock. I loved the little girl "Birdie". Birdie's mom and dad seperate and Birdie and her mother go to live with Birdie's grandmother.
I was deeply moved by the love Birdie's grandmother had for her daughter and granddaughter. There is a very touching moment when little Birdie tells her grandmother how much she loves her and the grandmother responds with,
"Oh honey, my cup runneth over".
That is how I have felt so many times this past month as I have had so many special moments with my family. This past six weeks we have been surrounded by family. We have gone to the coast with our children and grandchildren, attended church together, gone on picnics, played at the park, had barbeques. It seems like everytime we sit down a grandchild crawls into our laps. I love kneeling with them in family prayer each evening before they go to bed. I love how they greet us with squeals of delight as we wake up each morning. I love hearing my son's voice on the other end of the telephone when he calls just to tell me he loves me. I love to watch my daughter as she patiently manages her household of four children under 5 years old. We really do feel as if we are "walking on sunshine" every day of our lives.
